AirAsia is urging the use of its contactless features, which have proven popular among guests departing from Malaysia in 2022. More than 90% of guests have used self-check-in, e-boarding passes, and baggage drop-off using self-bag-drop machines for faster, safer, and more efficient check-in, pre-security, and boarding processes. The airline is also promoting facial recognition system FACES for pre-security clearance and self-boarding. As a result of the high digital adoption rate, counter check-in service facilities will be limited in Malaysia, effective 1 May 2023. Eligible guests can still use counter check-in services with exemptions covering senior citizens, last-minute changes, reduced mobility, Young Passenger Travelling Alone, ATM, and group bookings. Non-eligible guests will be charged RM20 and RM30 for domestic and international flights, respectively. AirAsia’s digital initiatives aim to streamline the travel process and reduce waiting times at airports. Guests who will be departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) (Terminal 2) are recommended to enroll their details for FACES on the airasia SuperApp to pass through pre-security without displaying their boarding pass.
