AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) announced that it transported 504,476 passengers in Q1 2023, up 49% from the previous quarter. The carrier attributed the growth to increased seat capacity and travel demand during the New Year holidays and spring season. AAX’s seat capacity grew by 47% QoQ to 630,069 seats, and available seat kilometres (ASK) rose by 71% to 2,899 million. The carrier has been reactivating its fleet and relaunched more destinations such as Osaka, Busan, and Shanghai while increasing its services to Tokyo. Delhi and Tokyo posted the strongest passenger load factors (PLF) of close to 90%, while overall PLF was strong at 80%, up from 79% in the previous quarter. AAX expects to increase its flights to China and add more destinations and countries to its network in the short to medium term. Its total fleet size remained at 14 A330s as of March 2023, with nine aircraft now activated and operational. Its associate, AirAsia X Thailand, carried a total of 289,813 passengers in Q1 2023, with a strong PLF of 88%.
