American Airlines has announced the launch of a new, daily year-round flight service between Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), set to begin on May 6, 2025. This route will be the only direct flight connecting a Scottish airport with Philadelphia.
The new service is designed to enhance connectivity between Scotland and the United States, providing passengers with a gateway to the Americas through American Airlines’ "largest hub in the Northeast." From Philadelphia, travelers will have access to onward connections to various destinations, including Miami, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, expressed his enthusiasm for the new route, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome American Airlines back to Edinburgh with this new, year-round service to Philadelphia." He noted that the service builds on the success of a previous seasonal route and emphasized its importance for providing connectivity for Scotland, which will benefit leisure and business travelers as well as the tourism industry.
José A. Freig, American Airlines’ Vice President of International Operations, remarked on the expansion, stating that the new service offers customers "more access to the United States and beyond."
The introduction of this year-round flight follows a previously operated seasonal service by American Airlines on the same route. The establishment of a permanent, daily connection signifies a strengthening of the transatlantic link between the two cities.
