American Airlines has donated a Pratt & Whitney JT8D engine from one of its retired McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft to the Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM), which offers aviation maintenance technician certification. AIM’s Chicago students will benefit from the donation, as it will enable hands-on training that is essential to become prepared for the workforce. The move is part of a wider partnership between the two organisations, which aims to provide a career path to American Airlines for aspiring aviation maintenance technicians. AIM has an enrolment of over 4,000 students annually for its 21-month training programme.
