As coach D.J. Smith has noted many times he’s the guy that leads the Senators “into the battle.”
Saturday with the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning in town was no different as the Senators captain led the charge with his first career-hat trick while goaltender Anton Forsberg made 25 stops for his first career shutout in the club’s 4-0 victory.
But, as Tkachuk said he couldn’t have done without a little help from his friends.
Along with linemates Josh Norris, who scored the club’s only other goal, and three assists from Drake Batherson, the trio combined for seven points against the Bolts.
He completed his three-goal performance into an empty net in the third to seal the victory. Tkachuk has seven goals and 10 points in the club’s last six games as the Senators look like they’ve turned a corner.

Norris has four goals and six points in the last six games while Batherson has also been reliable with a goal and seven points in the same stretch. He played a big role three assists Saturday and it’s exciting for the faithful to think that trio could be a force for this franchise for years to come.
