Just weeks after United Airlines plans to shift its daily Ithaca to Washington Dulles flights to Newark, American Airlines will shift its daily Ithaca to Charlotte flights to Philadelphia, Roxan E. Noble, Director at the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport, has confirmed to 14850 Today.
“American Airlines is changing their service to Philadelphia effective May 5th,” Noble tells us, saying the airline believes “the traffic from ITH through PHL offers service that is more valuable to our passengers.”
Just two months ago, United Airlines announced that, due in part to a regional pilot shortage, the company was suspending service between Dulles and several regional markets, including Ithaca, beginning in March.

In September 2020, many years of daily flights between the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport ended, with regional carrier Piedmont Airlines, which operates as part of the American Eagle regional brand, adding additional service to Charlotte at that time.

Ithaca also retains service to and from Detroit on Delta, currently operating a single flight pair with afternoon flights in each direction.
“Although we did enjoy having service to Charlotte,” Noble tells 14850 Today, “we are working with American to make sure the PHL service is successful.”
“As of right now, the switch to PHL appears to be a permanent one, but we are always working with our airline partners, building relationships, and working to add additional destinations if possible,” she adds.
