Ethiopian Airlines is celebrating 50 years of service to China, having made its first flight to Shanghai in 1973. As the first African carrier to do so, it has been connecting China with Africa for five decades, and the airline’s CEO, Mesfin Tasew, called it an important moment in Africa-China relations. Ethiopian Airlines has continued to offer uninterrupted service to Chinese destinations despite the COVID-19 pandemic, albeit with restricted frequencies, and plans to resume its normal schedule soon, including daily flights to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, as well as weekly flights to Guangzhou and Chengdu. The airline is also operating 31 cargo flights each week to nine Chinese destinations.
