Ethiopian Airlines is marking 50 years of service to the UK in April 2023. The African carrier first flew to the UK in 1973, via Cairo, Rome and Frankfurt on a Boeing 720-B, with services to Manchester from 1982, while in 2004 it launched non-stop flights between Heathrow and Addis Ababa using a Boeing 767-300ER. In 2012, the airline became the first African carrier to operate a Boeing 787 Dreamliner between the two hubs, and it also remains the only carrier on the route to operate both Airbus A350-900s to Heathrow and Boeing 787s to Manchester. Ethiopian has more than 150 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations.
