Somalia Denies Ethiopian Airlines Access to Hargeisa Amid Political Tensions
The Somalia Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) recently refused an Ethiopian Airlines flight, ET8372, access to Hargeisa’s airspace and landing facilities.
The SCAA justified this decision, stating the flight lacked the requisite permissions from the aviation authority. This incident occurred on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
The flight in question was operated by a Dash 8-Q400 aircraft, carrying a high-level Ethiopian delegation bound for Hargeisa.
The delegation intended to introduce a prominent Ethiopian official to Somaliland, an autonomous region that declared independence from Somalia in 1991. However, the aircraft was compelled to turn back due to the denial of access.
