Budget airline Vueling has been fined €30,000 ($37,000) by the Catalan government over dress code regulations for female cabin crew. The fines were imposed after a union representing Vueling staff, Stavla, claimed the airline’s regulations were discriminatory. The dress code for female crew members referred to “exclusively black” eyeliner, “artificial-looking or excessively long” lashes, “discreet” lipstick, heels between two and three inches high, and foundation matching “skin tone as faithfully as possible”. Male employees were required to have a “clean and neat appearance”, but had no specific dress or footwear requirements. Female pilots may be among other Vueling employees who were affected.
