British Airways has been fined $135,000 by the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) for keeping passengers delayed on the tarmac in poor weather for over four hours on December 7, 2017. The airline breached tarmac delay regulations when it left 185 passengers stuck on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner as it underwent the deicing process, taking more than four hours. The airline has disagreed with the enforcement action, stating that the delay was reasonable and consistent with the objective of transporting the passengers to their destination. It has agreed to cease and desist from similar violations in the future as part of the settlement. This is not the first time the airline has been fined by the USDOT for breaching regulations.
