Indian airline IndiGo has firmed up a commitment for an additional 30 Airbus A350-900 widebody aircraft. This decision solidifies the airline’s expansion into long-haul operations, a strategic move that had been previously anticipated.
The order includes 30 firm A350-900s, with the option to convert some of these to the larger A350-1000 variant. This flexibility allows IndiGo to adapt its future fleet needs as its long-haul network develops.
This latest commitment builds upon a previous memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the same number of aircraft, signaling a strong endorsement of the A350 platform by IndiGo’s management. The airline aims to leverage the A350’s capabilities for its international growth strategy.
IndiGo’s existing order book already includes a significant number of Airbus aircraft. The addition of the A350s marks a significant step in its strategy to operate a dual-aisle fleet alongside its extensive single-aisle A320 family fleet.
The A350-900 is a modern, fuel-efficient widebody aircraft well-suited for long-haul routes. IndiGo’s adoption of this aircraft type is expected to enable it to serve new international markets and enhance its competitiveness on existing long-haul routes.
