Delhi-Tashkent flight
On September 22nd, IndiGo commenced its Delhi-Tashkent service, just a little over a month after announcing it. The flight is IndiGo’s larger expansion plan into Central Asia as it focuses on growing its international reach through flights of its own as well as through codeshare partnerships. Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales, IndiGo, commented,
“We are delighted to commence direct flights between Delhi and Tashkent, the vibrant metropolitan capital of Uzbekistan. This new connection brings India closer to Central Asia, opening a new gateway for travelers to explore the country’s rich cultural landmarks and historical connections along the Silk Route. As we expand our international network, we’re committed to bringing people closer to their preferred destinations while fostering cultural and commercial ties across new horizons.”

The carrier will have direct competition from Uzbekistan Airlines on the Delhi-Tashkent route. While IndiGo will use its A320neo aircraft on the route, Uzbekistan largely relies on the Boeing 767 for its Delhi service, although it also deploys a 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A321 to Delhi on some days. Together, both airlines will offer more than 85 return flights on this sector, with more than 19,000 seats on offer, per data from Cirium.
Other routes
IndiGo’s flight to Tashkent is part of its larger international expansion into Central and Southeast Asia and Africa. The airline has announced, commenced, and re-introduced several overseas flights in the last few weeks and months.

On August 7th, it started flying to Jakarta in Indonesia from Mumbai, becoming the first airline to directly connect Mumbai with the Indonesian capital. IndiGo deploys its Airbus A320neo aircraft on the route that takes a little over 6 hours to complete. A day later, the budget carrier commenced flights to Tbilisi in Georgia from New Delhi. This was IndiGo’s 29th international and 107th overall destination.
Before that, it had started flying to its first African destination in Nairobi, Kenya. Africa has traditionally not featured too much on the network maps of Indian carriers. African airlines carry the bulk of operations out of India, but things are changing gradually, and IndiGo’s service is part of that change.
IndiGo also launched two new flights to the Middle East from Ahmedabad to Abu Dhabi and Jeddah and announced the resumption of Delhi-Male, Hyderabad-Male, and Delhi-Hong Kong services in the last few days.
