Two separate incidents of passengers smoking in aircraft washrooms have been reported on Indian airlines recently. On March 5, a 24-year-old woman was caught smoking on an IndiGo flight travelling from Kolkata to Bengaluru. A day earlier, a passenger on an Air India flight to Delhi was caught smoking in the washroom triggering the fire alarm. In January, a passenger on an Air India flight urinated on a fellow passenger leading to his arrest and a fine of INR30 lakhs ($43,000) on the airline by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
