The UK’s ambassador to Greece has raised hopes of the country being added to the UK’s green list in time for summer.
Kate Smith has said she believes the country could be upgraded to the green list “soon”, as cases continue to decline.
Currently Greece – and all the major holiday destinations for Brits – are on the amber list, which means travellers must quarantine for 10 days at home once back in the UK.
It had been hoped some Greek islands would be added to the green list last week, however the only change saw Portugal downgraded to the amber list.

The Government and Joint Biosecurity Centre review the list every three weeks, with the next change expected before the end of June.
They look at the latest case figures, prevalence of new variants as well as the success of the vaccination roll-out before deciding which list each country should be in.
As The Mirror reports, Ms Smith was speaking at a conference on tourism and security when she expressed her optimism that Greece could reopen to Brits.
This was echoed by Greek Minister of Tourism, Harry Theocharis, who said that the number of coronavirus cases has been declining in recent weeks.
