Ahead of the next update on travel restrictions, senior ministers and officials will review Covid-19 data this week.
This will inform their decision on the countries safe to travel to (green), those with stricter quarantine measures (amber) and those not safe to visit at the moment (red).
Spain and France’s status could change to be on the amber watchlist in the update, which will be announced by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps on either Wednesday, August 4, or Thursday, August 5.

Any amendments to the traffic light system are likely to be enforced from August 9.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has reportedly told the prime minister that the UK’s current border restrictions are “out of step with our international competitors”.
A source told the Sunday Times: “Rishi has called time on the travel restrictions” – warning that the current measures have a damaging effect on jobs.

When is the next review due?
The latest changes to the travel list in England were announced on July 14 when Croatia and Bulgaria were added to the green category of countries where self-isolation is no longer required upon your return. It was also announced that the Balearic Islands would be moved to the amber travel list.
