kenya airways kisumu: National carrier Kenya Airways has announced that its flight KQ670 crashed at Kisumu International Airport on the evening of Thursday, May 30.
In a statement, KQ said the flight had hit the bird while landing as a result of which it got stuck on the runway after crash landing.
Kenya Airways (KQ) confirms that on 30 May 2024, at approximately 18:36 hrs, KQ 670 struck the bird while landing at Kisumu International Airport, resulting in the aircraft being temporarily stuck on the runway,” “the statement said.”
K.Q. noted that the aircraft landed safely in Kisumu, however, it was not able to fully exit the runway as the bird strike affected the aircraft’s operating components.
All passengers and crew members on board the aircraft were unharmed during the evening incident.
We are working diligently with the relevant authorities to remove the aircraft and resume normal operations. Passengers of the affected flights will be provided with updated travel information and assistance as required. said K.K.
The national carrier also apologised to the affected customers for the inconvenience caused as a result of the bird strike.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and assure our passengers of their safety and comfort,” KQ said.
It is reported that the pilot of the aircraft made several attempts to land the aircraft and finally succeeded in the third attempt.
“We cannot be dragged, we are at the end of the runway. We can be brought a ladder, but it is not sure how we will be taken to the lounge, because I have never seen a bus at this international airport.
The runway at Kisumu International Airport has now been closed and flights are being diverted to other airports.
