NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31 – Kenya Airways (KQ) has marked five years of flying direct between Nairobi and New York in the United States of America (USA).
Since the inaugural flight in October 2018, the national carrier has carried over 300,000 passengers and 6,000 tonnes of cargo on 1,700 flights, covering approximately 72,000 kilometers.
“It has been an incredible 5 years of connecting our guests between Nairobi and New York,” KQ Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka said.
“This route is of paramount importance to Kenya Airways as it serves as the fastest and most vital connection for our guests within the travel and tourism industry, the business community, and governments of both countries,” added Kilavuka.
Kilavuka added that the airline will continue to connect flyers with onward connections in Africa and America.
“The Nairobi – New York route is strategic for Kenya as it provides the East Africa region a gateway to the United States of America and the greater North America region for social and economic growth through trade, education, medical, sports, and leisure travel,” Kilavuka stated.
“The New York –Nairobi route in turn has opened the East Africa region for tourism, trade and investments.“
Recently, KQ and Delta Airlines signed a codeshare agreement to allow travelers to book flights on each other’s flights.
Delta flyers will access 37 connecting flights in Africa through KQ, while the national carrier for Kenya will access 57 cities in the US and Canada.
