Kenya Airways (KQ) has reported a loss of KSh68.2bn ($633m) for the year ending 31 December 2022, due to the decline in air travel brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. The loss is attributed to a decrease in passenger numbers and the closure of international borders. However, KQ has developed a turnaround plan aimed at ending its reliance on state support by the end of 2023, in which it will optimise its network, restructure its fleet, reduce operating costs and explore new markets. The airline aims to improve its profitability and financial performance, allowing it to end its reliance on the government’s financial support.
