On August 5th, 1997, Korean Air Flight 801 crashed into Nimitz Hill, Guam, just three and a half miles from the runway, resulting in 228 fatalities, including the flight crew and 11 of the flight attendants. The cause of the crash was the captain’s failure to brief the flight crew and execute the correct approach, with contributing factors including the captain’s level of fatigue and inadequate flight crew training. The air traffic controller’s unawareness and failure to follow procedures also delayed informing the emergency response team. The survivors mainly consisted of passengers from the first class and rear sections of the aircraft. The crash highlighted the importance of proper flight crew management and air traffic control procedures in ensuring the safety of air travel.
