“The applicants remain committed to pursuing their claims against Qatar Airways, MATAR (the entity that operates the airport) and the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority for the events which occurred on 2 October 2020 on the tarmac of the Doha International Airport,” the statement said.
Justice Halley ruled that the women could continue to pursue claims against the individuals working for MATAR for malpractice, rather than the airport authority itself, given the Qatari police had already apologised for the actions and sanctioned the officer responsible.
If successful, a claim against the individuals would likely result in the women being entitled to much smaller damages. A spokesman for Qatar Airways declined to comment.
