Qatar Airways has announced the introduction of Starlink’s innovative high-speed, low-latency Wi-Fi on three of its Boeing 777-300 aircraft by the last quarter of this year. This marks the initial phase of its rollout strategy, aiming to enhance the passenger experience onboard. The airline plans to progressively extend SpaceX-powered technology across its entire modern fleet within the next two years. The announcement was made at the Aircraft Interior Expo in Hamburg, Germany, in the presence of Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, and Mr. Mike Nicolls, Vice President of Starlink Engineering at SpaceX.
Known for its leadership in innovation, Qatar Airways consistently integrates advanced technologies to redefine the inflight experience. The new ultra-high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, offering up to 500 megabits per second per plane, allows passengers to enjoy high-speed, low-latency internet with a simple ‘one-click-access’. This enables a variety of internet-based services, including video streaming, online gaming, enriched web browsing, and more, significantly enhancing the travel experience.
Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer highlighted that the collaboration with Starlink reflects Qatar Airways’ customer-first mindset and commitment to exceeding passenger expectations. As the first airline in the MENA region to offer this service, this initiative marks a significant milestone for Qatar’s national carrier, promising an unparalleled onboard experience. Mike Nicolls of SpaceX emphasised the transformative potential of high-speed, low-latency internet in aviation, expressing excitement about the partnership and its benefits for Qatar Airways passengers. Starlink, the world’s largest satellite internet constellation, is poised to revolutionise in-flight connectivity globally.
