Vietjet has launched non-stop services between Vietnam and Australia. The inaugural flight from Ho Chi Minh City landed in Melbourne last Saturday, with another coming in to Sydney this week. The Sydney and Melbourne routes will initially operate return flights three times a week, with the Brisbane service dropping to a twice-weekly frequency from June. For medium- and long-haul flights, Vietjet uses its fleet of five Airbus A330-300s configured to seat 377 passengers in a two-class layout. Adding routes and frequencies will require the expansion of its widebody capacity, which Vietjet confirmed is in progress, with one more A330 due to be received next month, a total of nine by year-end and new narrowbodies – Airbus A321neos/XLRs and Boeing 737 MAXs – for its short-haul services.
