Vietnamese airline Vietjet’s business strategy is centered around pioneering new routes and finding new opportunities, rather than stealing customers from other airlines, according to chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao. The airline has been successful in establishing new routes to India, Australia, and Kazakhstan, and plans to expand further to Japan and South Korea later this year. Vietjet operates 100 routes with a fleet of 77 jets, which it plans to increase to 87 this year with the addition of three new Airbus aircraft A321neo ACFs that can seat up to 240 passengers. Additionally, Vietjet has a contract to purchase 200 narrow-body aircraft from Boeing and a waiting list with Airbus for 300 more aircraft. Vietjet aims to transport 25.7 million passengers on 140,000 flights this year, with an average occupancy of 87%, and increase revenue by 25% to VND50.1 trillion ($2.2 billion) while turning a profit of VND1 trillion after posting losses last year.
