Thai Vietjet CEO Woranate Laprabang discusses the airline’s growth plans and fleet expansion with David Casey at Aviation Week. Laprabang explains how Thai Vietjet was able to accelerate its growth within Thailand during the pandemic by opening six new domestic destinations within five months, increasing its share from the 6th largest domestic operator to the second-largest. The airline plans to continue its growth by expanding internationally, with a focus on Indochina, North Asia, India and China. Thai Vietjet is set to receive its first Boeing 737 MAX 8s in July 2024 as it seeks to ramp up the number of international destinations served. The airline’s ambition is to grow the fleet to 50 aircraft by 2027. Building a cost-conscious culture within the organization is key, according to Laprabang, in order to remain competitive in a low-margin business.
