flier has expressed frustration over the absence of non-vegetarian meal options on a Vistara flight. In a post on X, the passenger questioned the logic behind the policy, humorously suggesting whether the airline planned to set up a tandoor on longer flights.
He quoted a stewardess who explained, “We don’t serve non-veg because this is a short flight.” He criticised Vistara, suggesting they should label themselves as a half-service airline.
Vistara’s customer care responded to the post from their official X account in three separate threads. In the first thread, the airline said it was “concerned to note this, and would like to investigate further”.
In the second thread, it said, “Hi Soumitra, we value your preferences and choices regarding inflight meals. While we are constantly improving our services, please note that the mentioned flight was short with slightly reduced flying time. As a standard procedure, we currently offer vegetarian meals in your booked cabin.”
“Our services are designed to ensure all customers are served and necessary procedures are completed by the crew within the allocated time. We appreciate your understanding and hope to provide you with a delightful experience soon. Thank you, Aishwarya,” said Vistara.
Numerous users responded to the post, sharing similar experiences or injecting humour, while some shared jokes.
One user wrote, “The Pune Ahmedabad leg doesn’t serve non veg, just because it’s going to or coming from Gujarat.” Another added, “Non- veg is luxury in India, like fine wine. Only affordable during longer flights.” A third said, “This once happened to me on a Mumbai New Delhi air india flight. They gave everyone idli sambar by default and when I asked for non veg, they gave the same reason. Finally they gave me an omelette sausage meal after they apparently “searched” for it ..”
Often flyers take to social media to voice grievances about their flight experiences. A passenger recounted his ordeal with SpiceJet airlines on X. He detailed a series of flight cancellations and rescheduled timings during his journey from Bengaluru to Darbhanga and back, causing distress for him and his elderly parents seeking medical assistance.
