Vistara Crisis:
Vistara Airlines, which is in the middle of a row over delays and cancellations of its flights, on Sunday announced it was going to scale back its operations by around 25-30 flights per day to ease pressure on pilots and crew members. Over the last few days, the airline faced massive public ire for disruptions due to non-availability of pilots. The announcement came after the Vistara CEO announced over 98 per cent of its pilots signed new contracts with revised salaries, which caused unprecedented disruptions.
As Vistara is eyeing a merger with Air India, pilots are worried that their fixed pay component is getting reduced in new contracts. Owing to this, the service was massively disrupted over the weekend of March 31 to April 1 with flights getting cancelled. The situation was so pathetic that the DGCA had to step, which asked the airline to submit a daily report on flight cancellations and delays. The civil aviation ministry is also monitoring the situation.
