Russell Quirk, a property expert, sent bailiffs to Luton Airport to confront Wizz Air over money owed to him after his family’s flights were cancelled at the last minute. Quirk had booked flights from Luton Airport to Faro in January 2022 for a family holiday in May of that year. However, on the day of the flight, he received a message from Wizz Air saying it was cancelled with no explanation, alternative offered, or apology. After scrambling to find another carrier, accommodation, and other expenses, Quirk said it cost him an extra £4,500. After almost two months, Wizz Air reimbursed him but repeatedly ignored his claim for consequential losses. Quirk took his case to court, but Wizz Air ignored the judgement, prompting him to send in the bailiffs. The company has since paid him and apologised, saying it “fell short of our own aspirations and our customers’ expectations.”
