Vaccine Commander Chris Dawson said those caught trying to game the system, or share their vaccine passport with an unvaccinated friend, faced criminal charges under the Emergency Management Act.
“Don’t use someone else’s phone, and if you do, you run the risk of a $1000 on-the-spot fine or a $50,000 court fine,” he said.
Windsor Hotel general manager Max Fox-Andrews said his venue had already had to turn some unvaccinated customers away.
“We’ve had some interesting conversations and opinions and beliefs and at this stage we’ve lost some customers, but we’ve also won some customers,” he said.
“Eight per cent of the population still haven’t had their first vaccine – I care about the other 92 per cent who have, and I think that’s what I’ve got to focus on.”
The restrictions on the unvaccinated are designed to reduce the spread of COVID-19, with unvaccinated people more likely have a severe case of the virus, and more likely to spread it to others.
