COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – If you’re looking to reserve a home for your friends and family to celebrate Memorial Day weekend, there’s a possibility your booking could be denied. Airbnb is looking to reduce the risks of disruptive partying within their residences over holiday weekends. Holiday weekends are when these incidents are more susceptible to happen. Disruptive partying is banned within the company.

This isn’t the first time Airbnb has tried reducing partying. In 2023, during the holiday weekends of Memorial Day and Fourth of July, over 67,000 people were denied entire home reservations. In Colorado, there were about 850 people prevented.

Airbnb says disruptive party situations are typically rare for them, however, they’re trying to reduce these ‘isolated issues’ from happening. The goal is to help hosts promote good, favorable, experiences for all in their homes and neighborhoods.

The standards and measures Airbnb has set up are… taking a deeper look at one-to-two-night bookings, using ‘machine learning technology’ to deny bookings with heightened risks for disruptive parties. For guests who get the ‘ok’ on their reservation, they’ll be required to state that they understand the company’s banning of disruptive parties. Guests must acknowledge that they could face suspension or removal from the platform if they break that rule.

On the company’s help page, they tell viewers how they conduct the screening for bookings with potential party risks. Their assessment is based on multiple sources such as the guest, host, and other third-party resources. The factors they look into, are based on the timing of the reservation, prior reservations, the guest’s Airbnb history, listing characteristics, and more.

It’s important to make sure your intentions aren’t to ‘go wild’ when booking an Airbnb, as they can prevent you from reserving a home to enjoy.
