PLAIN TWP. − The township is increasing the penalty for hotels that pay their taxes late after two repeatedly failed to file returns and make tax payments on time.
The three-member board of trustees voted late last month to increase the penalty from 6% of the tax owed to 10%.

The new higher late penalty will take effect for hotel taxes on January sales that are not paid by the end of February.
