Origins
The origins of the family are probably in the county of Devon, with one branch moving to London in the 19th century. In the 1890s Henry Mogford and his wife Lydia were living in Barbara Street, Islington with their young family. Henry was employed as a ‘printer’s reader’.
The couple had four children, Alfred, Ernest, Ellen, and the youngest Arthur, the one destined to move to High Wycombe. Arthur was born on December 10 1888.
