Zimbali Lodge has completed a refurbishment of its public spaces and conferencing facilities, reinforcing its premium positioning within KwaZulu-Natal’s hospitality market. Guest room upgrades are still underway.
Located within the 700-hectare Zimbali Coastal Resort on the Dolphin Coast, just 15 minutes from King Shaka International Airport, the lodge remains well positioned for corporate and MICE business.
“The upgrades were guided by a focus on improving guest flow and operational efficiency,” says Reinhard Visser, Operations Lead at Dream Hotels & Resorts. “The aim was to create spaces that work better for corporate groups, while retaining the lodge’s boutique character.”
Front-of-house processes have been streamlined to improve check-in flow, while circulation routes between guest rooms, meeting venues and dining areas were redesigned to reduce congestion during peak conferencing periods. Conference and banqueting spaces were also reconfigured to allow for smoother transitions between pre-function, meeting and catering areas.
Food and beverage operations have been optimised to support more efficient service delivery across à la carte dining, banqueting and event catering, particularly during high-occupancy periods.
The refurbishment retained the lodge’s Afro-Bali architectural elements, with existing timber structures and carved wood features restored rather than replaced, supporting both sustainability and design continuity. Additional upgrades include energy-efficient LED lighting, durable finishes suited to coastal conditions, and the use of locally sourced materials where possible.
Commercially, the investment is expected to support stronger average daily rates and increased midweek corporate demand. KwaZulu-Natal continues to attract conferencing business, supported by air access and trade platforms such as Africa’s Travel Indaba, which showcase the region to international buyers.
