Following the premiere of HBO’s “The White Lotus”, Thailand has entered the international limelight, with Koh Samui, a primary filming location, experiencing a significant surge in tourism interest.
Agoda reports a 12% rise in accommodation searches for the island, while interest from the U.S. has jumped by 65% compared to the previous month, signalling a promising year for Thailand’s luxury tourism sector.
Beyond Thailand’s tourism surge, the “White Lotus effect” is also driving interest in travel to other Asian countries. Following the show’s premiere, Agoda reported a 47% increase in Asia searches by U.S. travellers and a 51% rise in North America. U.S. travellers are particularly drawn to cities like Da Nang, Bangkok, Manila, Bali, and Singapore, with Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia emerging as the most sought-after markets.
