In the lead up to Japan’s Golden Week, digital travel platform Agoda’s search data reveals a increase in interest for travel to Thailand, cementing its status as the second most popular international destination for Japanese tourists, after South Korea. This year’s prolonged Golden Week, spanning 29 April to 6 May, offers Japanese travelers an extended window of travel possibilities.
Thailand is the only Southeast Asian destination in the top three, and is more searched than Taiwan (#3), United States (#4) and Vietnam (#5).
Agoda insights show Thailand’s popularity among Japanese travelers is increasing, with ‘the land of smiles’ showing a 60% increase in searches between January and mid-March of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year. This signals a growing fascination with Thailand’s varied attractions and rich culture.
