A new study by Booking.com has suggested that travelers feel forced to choose between cutting costs and making sustainable travel choices, highlighting a quandary that people face when it comes to being mindful about their travel choices. While 44% of respondents believed the environment would get worse in the next six months, 68% believed the cost of living crisis would also get worse, leaving people unsure of what to prioritize as they work to reconcile what is important to them with the demands of everyday life. The survey, which included responses from more than 33,000 travelers across 35 countries and territories, also demonstrated that 75% of Singapore travelers believed people need to act now and make more sustainable choices to save the planet for future generations. However, rising inflation means nearly half of travelers think that they must make a choice between sustainability and spending, and 59% believe that more sustainable travel options are too expensive, echoing data from Booking.com in 2022. Additionally, 60% of Singapore travelers believe there are not enough sustainable travel options, while 73% want travel companies to offer more sustainable travel choices.
