Athens ranks among the top trending spring destinations for U.S. travelers, according to a new report by online travel platform Expedia.
Expedia’s Spring Travel Outlook reveals that flight searches for March through May are on the rise, particularly for international trips. Searches for spring travel abroad have surpassed last year’s levels, as Americans aim to take advantage of a strong U.S. dollar to make their budgets go further in destinations such as Japan and Mexico.
Athens rounds out the top 10 list with a 25 percent increase in searches by American travelers interested in experiencing spring in the Greek capital.
Rio de Janeiro leads the list as the season’s top trending destination, recording an 85 percent surge in interest—possibly fueled by a high-profile free concert at Copacabana Beach in May and the city’s iconic Carnival in early March.
Other trending destinations include Curacao, Tokyo, Osaka, Istanbul, Sint Maarten, Paris, Bangkok, and Seoul.
