Tech layoffs have now become a trend, as almost every company is reporting job cuts every other month. Adding to the list, the Seattle-based travel giant Expedia Group has carried out another round of layoffs this week. While the company has not disclosed the exact number of employees affected, LinkedIn posts from impacted staff suggest the layoffs have touched several departments, including engineering. Expedia Group owns a portfolio of popular travel brands, including Vrbo, Orbitz, Hotwire, Trivago, Hotels.com, and its flagship site Expedia.com.
According to a report by Skift, which first broke the news, around 3 per cent of Expedia’s global workforce have been let go. Based on the company’s most recent figures, that would equate to nearly 500 people.
