Lake Windermere
More than ten miles in length, Windermere is England’s largest lake and one of the most popular places to visit in the Lake District. During the summer, Windermere offers a wide variety of activity including cruises, fishing, boating, sailing and scuba diving.
Overall, the lake is rated 4.5 out of 5 over 4,160 reviews… but not everyone enjoyed their trip.
One review described it as ‘Blackpool with hills’ while another comment claimed Windermere has been ‘utterly ruined by profiteering’.
Another one-star review said it was ‘ruined’ by too many visitors, others said their walk turned into a ‘smelly funfair’ and complained there was ‘absolutely nothing’ to do in the rain.
Poor reviews mentioned ‘patchy’ 4G coverage and accused the area of being ‘quite run down’ and ‘very busy with tourists’.
