Incheon International Airport has been named the world’s second-best airport for 2024 by Skytrax, a UK-based aviation consultancy. The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 17, at the World Airport Awards ceremony held in Frankfurt, Germany. This marks a significant climb for the South Korean hub, which was ranked fourth in 2023.
In addition to its overall ranking, Incheon Airport also received the title of "World’s Most Family-Friendly Airport for 2024" and was named the best airport in its size category, for facilities serving 70 million passengers or more annually.
A New High in Global Rankings
The 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards placed Doha’s Hamad International Airport in the top spot, with Incheon securing the second position. Singapore’s Changi Airport ranked third, followed by Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita airports in fourth and fifth place, respectively. According to Incheon International Airport Corp., this is the first time the airport has secured a position within the top three since the Skytrax rankings began in 1999.
These prestigious awards are often referred to as the Oscars of the aviation industry and are based on extensive customer satisfaction surveys conducted with over 13 million travelers worldwide. Previously, Incheon Airport held the top spot as the World’s Best Airport for 12 consecutive years, from 2005 to 2017, in the Airport Service Quality evaluation conducted by the Airports Council International.
Commitment to Service and Innovation
Lee Hak-jae, the president and CEO of Incheon International Airport Corp., attributed the achievement to the dedicated efforts of airport staff and the support of the public. He stated that the airport’s focus has been on enhancing customer services, such as implementing faster departure procedures and improving passport-free facial recognition systems.
Looking ahead, Lee affirmed the airport’s commitment to providing a safe and seamless passenger experience through the integration of smart services and continuous innovation. He expressed a goal to solidify Incheon’s position as a leading global airport.
