Cambodia has seen a significant decrease in malaria cases over the last 11 years, with no deaths from the disease reported in 2018 and since then. The country has recorded 4,041 cases of malaria in 2022, which is a significant drop from over 110,000 cases and over 500 deaths annually prior to 2011. The director of the National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control, Huy Rekol, credited the drop in malaria cases to better surveillance response, awareness, adequate equipment such as malaria testing devices, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, and anti-malarial drugs. The Cambodian government is committed to eradicating malaria in the country entirely by 2025. Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease typically found in rainy seasons and forest and mountainous provinces.
