China Eastern Airlines has resumed flights to Cambodia’s Siem Reap province, according to a statement by the country’s Ministry of Tourism. Flight MU2091 arrived from Shanghai with 132 Chinese tourists on board and the airline will operate direct flights between the two cities on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Before the pandemic, China was Cambodia’s largest source of foreign tourists and the Minister of Tourism’s report noted that the country received 2.36 million Chinese tourists in 2019, accounting for 35.7% of total tourist arrivals and generating around $1.8bn in revenue. The return of tourism will be important for Cambodia’s economic recovery as it is one of the four pillars supporting the country’s economy.
