The second edition of the S’Art Urban Arts Festival is taking place in Battambang, Cambodia, aiming to enhance the region’s tourism sector through art, culture, and cross-cultural exchange. The four-day event, running from May 2 to May 5, 2024, transforms the city’s streets into a vibrant hub of creative expression.
The festival is organized with support from the French Embassy in Cambodia and the French Institute of Cambodia. Its primary goal is to promote Cambodia’s rich artistic heritage while fostering international collaboration.
Under the theme "Art & Nature," the S’Art Urban Arts Festival features a diverse program of activities. The event showcases the talents of 12 Cambodian and international artists who participate in live painting sessions and mural creations throughout Battambang.
In addition to street art, the festival includes exhibitions, film screenings, circus performances, concerts, and various workshops. These activities provide a platform for artists to engage with the community and for visitors to immerse themselves in contemporary and traditional Cambodian culture. The festival encourages interaction and dialogue between local and international artists, contributing to a dynamic cross-cultural environment.
The opening ceremony on May 2nd was attended by H.E. Sok Lou, the Governor of Battambang province. In his remarks, he highlighted the festival’s significance in promoting the province’s tourism potential and providing a constructive platform for the nation’s youth. He emphasized that the event helps build Battambang’s reputation as a key cultural and artistic destination.
The festival aligns with Battambang’s recent recognition as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, which it joined in December 2023. This inclusion, which places Battambang among over 300 cities globally, acknowledges the city’s commitment to using creativity as a driver for sustainable urban development. The S’Art festival serves as a practical demonstration of this commitment, using art to attract tourists and celebrate the unique cultural identity of the region.
