GUWAHATI: The Indian Army rescued 447 tourists stranded due to heavy snowfall at Nathu La, near the India-China border in East Sikkim on Thursday.
In a press release, the Army informed that the tourists were rescued from the high reaches near the India-China border at Nathu La following sudden heavy snowfall.
The tourists were stuck on the Nathu La-Gangtok road following a severe snowstorm and sub-zero temperatures.
The tourists were travelling in about 155 vehicles that got stuck over a 15-kilometre stretch and started skidding after the snowstorm, informed Army sources.
Army officials braving the adverse weather conditions rescued the stranded tourists and provided them with accommodation, food and medical support.
