Brits are being warned to ‘exercise caution’ during upcoming trips to India. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its advice on holidaymakers jetting off to India as the country approaches a general election.
It has warned that curfews could be imposed, while mobile and internet network coverage could be ‘disrupted at short notice’. Strikes, political rallies and demonstrations are planned, with some expected to ‘become violent’.
Almost 970 million people are eligible to vote in what is thought will be the world’s biggest election. Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is hoping for a record third term in power.
