The possibility of going for a ‘hybrid model’ to host the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan, as India’s participation is contingent upon government policies, according to a source within the ICC’s executive board. Despite the ongoing ICC board meeting discussing various matters, Champions Trophy 2025 does not find itself on the agenda as per a report in PTI.
Mohsin Naqvi, the newly-elected chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), intends to engage with Jay Shah, his counterpart at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and other key figures from the ICC to seek assurances regarding India’s participation. However, a member of the ICC board, familiar with the discussions, suggests that the BCCI’s decision on India’s participation may not be made until closer to the tournament.
Furthermore, the possibility of utilizing the UAE as a potential venue for the Champions Trophy has not been ruled out entirely.
