Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and three Government Ministers will be traveling to Korea for a Team Ireland Trade Mission Week. The purpose of the mission is to strengthen ties and explore opportunities for Irish companies in Asia. The Taoiseach will be joined by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and the Minister for Further and Higher Education. They will meet decision-makers and hold meetings to open up new trade, investment, and education links with Korea, the 12th largest economy in the world and the fourth largest in Asia. This visit is part of Ireland’s broader plan to deepen economic relationships with Korea and the Asia Pacific region. The ministers will engage in various activities during the week, including a breakfast event organized by Enterprise Ireland for Irish companies to engage with in-market distributors and partners. The EU-Korea free trade agreement provides Irish companies with access to a market of over 50 million people, and there is scope to grow the existing trade relationship. Minister McConalogue will focus on promoting Irish agri-food exports to Korea, while Minister Harris will visit universities to discuss partnerships and promote Ireland’s new International Education and Innovation strategy. The trade mission will run until Friday, 3rd November.
