Laos’ tourism industry is making efforts towards sustainable tourism, with the introduction of the Travelife sustainability certification. The SUSTOUR Laos Project, in partnership with the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Provincial Chambers of Commerce and Industry, organised three business engagement events from Feb 27 to Mar 2 to introduce the certification. Additionally, five hotels in Luang Prabang and Vientiane Capital have been awarded the certification, with the support of the EU-funded SUSTOUR Laos project. Laos aims to welcome 1.4 million domestic and foreign visitors this year, with revenue from the tourism sector expected to reach over 340 million US dollars. Furthermore, its annual Elephant Festival will be held on Feb 18-20 in Xayaboury Province, where 75 elephants will be featured. In Vientiane, the Hengboun Food and Culture Street is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination. Lastly, the Dok Ngiew Festival, which aims to promote tourism in Bokeo Province, was held from Jan 25-29 and attracted thousands of people.
