India and Nepal are set to sign a major agreement that will allow tourists to make digital payments using Indian e-wallets like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm while travelling between the two countries. This agreement will also allow Nepali citizens to transfer money to any Indian bank through a QR code, while Indians can send money to any bank account in Nepal via e-wallets. This arrangement will not only benefit tourists and traders but also boost bilateral economic activity. India is Nepal’s largest trade partner and source of foreign investment, accounting for about two-thirds of Nepal’s merchandise trade and almost 100% of petroleum supplies. Nepal hopes to revive its economy with Indian e-wallets and boost bilateral trade.
