Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit to Crimea on Saturday to mark the ninth anniversary of the peninsula’s annexation. This was his first visit to the region since he sent troops to Ukraine in 2020. The visit came a day after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin over the “deportation” of Ukrainian children during the conflict. The Kremlin dismissed the legal validity of the warrant, arguing that it was “void” as Russia did not recognize the ICC’s jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Turkey announced the extension of an agreement that has allowed Ukraine to export grain, following Russia’s offensive in the country. However, Moscow and Kiev disagreed over the length of the extension.
